The Country Schoolhouse Quilt Shop
Bits & Pieces

Oct 2007

This is our 2nd newsletter using e-mail…..each day we get a couple more addresses.  As a reminder, your e-mail addresses are not given out and we do not go through any type of provider to send these—this is why you are not getting my “old” format that I used to mail you.  In order to do it in that format I had to have a newsletter provider and I don’t know what they do with your addresses so I opted not to have one and just do it in Word.

Reminder of our big shop hop on Oct. 12 (Fri) and Oct 13 (Sat).
The hours will be 8-6 both days at all shops.  You will be receiving 3 strips of batiks at each shop and their pattern that they used for their quilt using the 18 strips.  The batiks are all in fall colors so they will coordinate with each other.   My pattern is nice and easy for a beginner and all you need is a little yardage for 2 borders.   Others are more elaborate so you have a real selection.  If you finish visiting all 6 shops in the 2 days, you get a cute tote bag with coupons good for all our shops until the end of the year.  You will also have your name entered in the drawing for 3 large prizes and 6- $50 gift certificates.  It should be fun…..stop and see me.

Club Notes:
All of our clubs have started this month except for Thimbleberries 2008.

Nickel Club meets the 3rd Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m. and will meet for 6 months except for the month of Dec.   Moda Madness meets the 4th Monday at 6:00 p.m and will meet every other month except for Dec.  We’ll arrange the schedule at our first meeting.

Thangles Buck-A-Block started in Sept. and is in the 2nd month of pickup.  Thimbleberries clubs have this month and next month meetings and then they are done.  We will have our big auction for both clubs on Nov. 17th (Saturday) from 2-4.  Bring your bucks with you—I’ll have lots of items for you to bid on—big and small.

Our Birthday Event will be  November 10th (Sat) – Nov. 16th (Fri.) ….. We are 4 years old now, seems like just yesterday, we were moving bolts into our new space and having those opening day jitters.  Now we’re looking for more places to put our bolts and that’s causing our jitters!  During the week we will be giving out kisses—candy ones, that is—with discounts on them.  Of course, you don’t get a kiss until you are ready to check out!

The discounts will range from 10% - 40% and we will do 100 kisses worth using the bell shaped curve distribution (teachers will know about this one!)  You may use 1 kiss a day for your shopping spree…we will also have other goodies each day that will be on special, but you’ll have to stop in to see what they are…..did I mention that we will also be having birthday treats that week too?  I wonder what kind of birthday gifts we’ll get??

The Holidays are coming, and we have some of the perfect gifts.  This would be the perfect time to put a new sewing machine on your list—we have the perfect quilting machines---Baby Lock “Quilter’s Dream Series.”  Who wouldn’t want one of those cute small machines for traveling and classes? Or how about a great all around machine like the Quilter’s Choice 2, the Espire, or the Quilter’s Professional?  And those of you who like the wool felt and embellishing that—we have the Embellisher.  What about that wonderful Serger that threads itself!  We have it all….Stop and try one out.

Koala Cabinets—we are sending in our order next week so if you want one, now is the time as we won’t send in another order until spring.  Get hold of me quick if you want one now.

Thimbleberries 2008 --  I will have the pictures of both lines Lodge and Lake on the bulletin board with the 5” samples of the fabrics.  You can do one large quilt in either line or 4 smaller projects in just one line or a combination of both lines.  This makes it all the more fun.  We will start the clubs in January.  You can sign up any time.  The cost is $25 and includes a 5”pack of either Lake or Lodge.  We will be doing the Thimbleberries Bucks again and I have more fun games planned again for next year, we are also looking into a bus trip to Hutchinson to see Lynette Jensen, I’ll continue trying new recipes for you to taste and yes, we’ll have another auction.  Sign up individually or sign up as a group—we’ll do as many clubs as we have people signed up for—limit is 14 per club.  Shall we have 3 clubs this year?

Classes:
We don’t have any planned for this month, but are looking at some quick table runner patterns for some of the beginner quilters;  a tote bag,  and if you’d like to take the BB Bag class and didn’t have a chance last time, let us know as Mary said she would teach it again (my purse turned out so cute!!)  Mo said she would also teach her Paperback Book Tote again if there is enough interest….these make such cute Christmas gifts for your friends.  Talk to us and let us know your wishes or e-mail me.

New fabrics are coming in each week along with charm packs and jelly rolls.  New patterns and a few new books too.  I’m also ordering some Aurifil thread after I get some more info on the different wts.   Watch for my order of Sidewinders to get here.  This is a great bobbin winder that does not cost a fortune.  Makes a great gift for yourself!

Contest:
Baby Lock is sponsoring a quilt block contest.  Make a 12”x 12” block and submit the picture—you may win big!!!!  Prizes for the 12 semifinalists.  Come in and get the info from us.

This is the time of year to get out the machine, start the creative juices flowing, and make some wonderful items for you, your family, friends, and those less fortunate.  Keep Quilting and Have Fun with it…..from Marsha at the Country Schoolhouse.
